Not to be outdone by the astounding Aeroplane remix, Here’s A-Trak‘s Radio version of ‘Kilometer’, just because I only just discovered it, and it’s really quite good.
Did anyone manage to grab any of the Tellier apparel why it lasted? I’m still confused about the partnership with American Apparel, I wonder what it was that kicked it into gear? I’ve never seen a chain of stores endorse just one artist before.
The newest EP from Project Cyborg was released today through independent label ‘Monkey See Monkey Do’ and although it’s not quite the fidget-fest ‘Hit It’ (featured over here) I was expecting to be released by the guys, it’s still a corker of a track. Originally their remix of Dre’s ‘The Next Episode’, the track has been reworked with some new vocals and a nicer breakdown. Check it out.
Wouldn’t it have been fantastic to grow up in California during the ’60s? When LSD was legal, readily available, and not recognised as the threat to modern society that it is today. Listening to “Apollo” – by We Plants Are Happy Plants – may take you back to a simpler, more idealistic era. This is a song that you can listen to as summer washes over you; lying in a field, staring at the sky, watching clouds pass by.
Peter Bergmann is the man behind We Plants Are Happy Plants, an electronic group from Budapest, Hungry. They have produced several remixes, including Daft Punk, Sebastian Tellier, and Jean Micheal Jarre. Here is the stunning music video from Apollo:
I encourage you to listen to more by We Plants Are Happy Plants. They are signed to a forward-thinking UK label, Load Aim Fire, who have released their full EP for free download on www.loadaimfire.com.
I’ll spare you the part where I sound like I know what I’m talking about… BUT, what I do know is that The Horrors are a part of the Beggers Group, which has it’s roots deeply tied to the gothic music scene of the late 80s (who the Horrors seem largely reminiscent of).
Their image as a band and the style of their latest album ‘Primary Colours’ seem hugely inspired by that part of music history. Their modern day indiekid cool combined with the style of great gothic bands like Sisters of Mercy, Bauhaus and Gene Loves Jezebel really is a fantastic look and sound.
This is ‘Sea Within A Sea’, the last track on ‘Primary Colours’. The ethereal calm of it juxtaposed with those haunting guitarscapes just blows me away every time I hear it. Fantastic.
Before you sign me off as an entry level pervert, I think the song is actually quite good, despite the naked-ladies-in-Paris video. I’ve always Yelle and her pop-inspired electro sound and this is quite similar.
Plus, any lady that desires a real man like Gaspard to touch their thigh is a winner in my book.
And this one is for you who complain I never upload more than one mix per track!
In other news, it’s deadline crazy my end and I’m coming to the end of a nasty bout of man-flu right now. I’ve got a tonne of good stuff to post but you can wait a little longer right? Just a reminder to follow us on Twitter and join the Facebook group as well just because numbers make me smile.
You can order ‘Baby Baby Baby’ on 12″ or grab the digital download right now through Yozik. If your in France you’ll be able to download it via iTunes.
Summer is coming, it’s right around the corner I’m told.
Which can only mean one thing! The fair (I guess it also means beach barbeque’s, bike rides and over exposed midriffs but we’ll keep hold of that for another post)
This is music I like to call ‘Fairground Electro‘. It gives off that fun atmosphere of a ghost train ride and sugar driven highs.
Collated by myself over the past year or so, enjoy these three downloads which will hopefully put you in that candy-floss crazy mood.
The bets are still on for who remixer ‘Ratcliffe’ is, apart from this one remix for Dragonette the name has never arisen elsewhere. I put my money on Basement Jaxx maestro ‘Simon Ratcliffe’. Seeing as this track sounds exactly like something they would have produced about five years ago, think I’m onto something?
A fun and housy take on the Kitsune early-day favourites Dragonette, with enough dings, bells and bleeps to pass off as an arcade game.
It’s not often artists remix themselves but I guess Frankmusik is just that type of guy. I’m glad he did because the original is great but, this remix just tops the bill. It’s a classy bloghouse banger take on the original track with pitch-changed and glitched vocals. If this were released 3 years ago, he’d have been a pioneer.
Alphabeat get a lot of stick, which I think is quite unfair. They do some pretty fun songs and actually know a few things about marketing. They drafted in both Alex Metric and the Beetroots to remix their second single ‘Boyfriend’ last year and both are great, but this is a real favourite of mine.
The cackling clown laughs and bizarre Beetroot’s chords just got mental halfway through the track. It’s like a ghost train in reverse, can I ride again?
This is just wrong, so wrong. There is nothing valid to be said about this track. Pure pure filth in aural form.
This is THE bassy, late night dance floor moaner. You know that part where you just get too tired to dance anymore and the music just goes bizarre? That’s this track.
Did you ever own a Game Boy? I’m not talking about one of the modern advanced versions, but the original monochrome design – a plastic slab straight from the 80s. If you did, you’ll remember the game that came with it, a previously unknown little gem called ‘Tetris’.
Californian electro/hip-hop producer DJ Ghadi remembers. And he’s put together a 9min crunked up bootleg remix of the Tetris theme. There’s nothing new about Tetris remixes, but this one is catchy, crunchy and clever. Have a listen.
There is also an amazingly atmospheric remix by Duke Dumont out there too which you’ll find on iTunes. Rob Da Bank played it on his show a couple of sunday’s ago and it sounded great driving through the empty streets.
This site falls apart if I don’t have access to my computer! Just managed to get back online again after some hard drive issues (clickety click click to you too good sir)
I went to see The Prodigy last week and was impressed to be honest. I always seem a little bit disapointed when seeing some of the bigger acts but they were very good. There was no need for the over-zealous MCing though, it just divulged into pointless swearing and ‘come on my Brighton people’ every song. Naff naff.
Supporting was Dizzee Rascal and the South Central DJs, who have just confirmed they will be lodging on the B side of the next Prodigy single ‘Warriors Dance’ (definitely one of the high points on their latest album) along with a dubstep remix by Benga. You can check it out on their myspace page right now.
It’s such a classy remix, turning the whole track into something seemingly straight out of a horror film.
