It’s French for Red-Haired
I recently learnt that popular Louisiana based Le Roux were coming to town for a one night only show. As an arrogant rock kid I’d always loved the guitar wanking solo in their hit ‘Addicted’ and the carefree calm of ‘Nobody Says it Was Easy’. I strapped on my spiked dog collar and tied up my heavy duty ‘New Rock’ boots and set off to the show.
Upon arrival at the venue I immediately felt out of place, was this a modern 2k9 performance of the ‘Vagina Monologues’ ? The room was packed to the brim with sweaty kissing girls and bright-as-hell day-glo.

It turned out this was a coverband called ‘The La Roux’s’ who used keyboards and computer laptops to create sounds rather than guitars and drum kits (???). The La Roux’s failed to play any actual covers of LeRoux songs BUT, it was actually a very good show.
Afterwards, I spoke to someone in the crowd about what just happened and it turns out that these guys are actually quite big on the internets, and they are managed by the same man behind an indie pop band called ‘The Fire Alarms’ – I’ve never heard of them.

La Roux’s debut ‘Quicksand’ is available from Kitsune on Vinyl and Digital MP3. Watch out for the inevitable album release later in the year. She’ll be on tour with Lily Allen in March so go crazy if that’s your thing.
