Brighton night ‘Somewhere in the Universe’ is changing. They’ve become known for putting on some of the biggest parties in town with an alternative take on dance music which puts West Street to shame. Earlier on this year they played host to one of the first ever live gigs for both Little Boots and La Roux (Click here to check our coverage on that). They’ve also recently put on cutting edge acts like Boy Crisis and just-signed-to-Vice-records Katie Stelmanis (Yes, THAT Vice)

In their third year of activity it seems like they are taking a step-back from the banger-heavy house styling of yesterday and settling on a new, more mature sound. It’s a step that can only be good when they put out a most magnificent mixtape featuring blog favourite acts such as Boy Crisis, Casio Kids, Vega, Yelle, Fan Death, Yacht and Passion Pit, as well as big hitters Justice, Hot Chip and Little Boots.

So You Think You’ve Seen and Herd It Owl

“Where have you been?!” I hear you cry: first, you should probably stop checking this blog every hour for my next post, yeah that’s right 81.99.159.182, i’ve got my eye on you. Secondly, I’ve been doing some work on the Yell Yell Yellow radio show which is coming along smoothly. You’ll be seeing the website and pretty graphics up very soon and a bit more of an official explanation/description. Keep ‘em peeling yeah?

This is obviously a bit of an oldie now but still a goodie right? Scenario Rock is Mehdi Pinson from Paris, France (no relation to DJ Mehdi at all, silly me). As well as providing vocals for D.V.N.O, Justice returned the favor by remixing ‘Skitzo Dancer’ which has some pretty love it/hate it lyrics but I just go weak at the knees for the ‘Disco, disco disco’ bit towards the end, sadly overused wayyy too much in DJ sets in the past two years. Cheap thrills though right? Grab your altBro hat out of the cupboard and have a little prance around the room on me yeah?

Podcast?

Podcasting? So last year. I know what you’re thinking, who needs podcasts when you’ve got many many hosting services willing to share your files for free? I think though that our take on the casting of yesteryear could still be a big hit and maybe perhaps just that little extra to add to our portfolio. How will it be structured I hear you scream. Well for a start we won’t be placing any timing on the updates to start with. We will simply be posting up things which we will probably put up onto the website anyway but with the added bonus of being iPod/iPhone compatible so you can take Slice with you wherever you go. Mixtapes, Audio articles and interviews, all of our video content as well as the occasional bit of blogging is what we’re hoping for.

The very first entry into our podcasting archive is a powerful indie dance mixtape from dj Special K. Comprising some of the latest in dancable electro (and some old gems as well) into a 40 minute mixtape especially for the debut of Yell Yell Yellow.
