Sampling is a rarely used talent these days. It doesn’t take much to grab an old favourite 70’s Funk/Soul track and turn it into a modern day success, and this is exactly what I like about the LoFi Samurai.

Hailing from west Germany, the violent twosome have been creating this form of ‘filter tech house’ for quite some time now. I was hugely taken aback by their contribution to French compilation ‘Boxon Makes Me Happy‘ (also featuring Stereoheroes and Mustard Pimp, Gooseflesh and Neo Tokyo among others) titled ‘Butz!’

The track in question is absolutely fantastic, it’s got a super funky hook-line with that solid bass riff which you just want to poplock to. I love the build up towards the end and it all just winds up to an astounding finish. Some say sampling is just lazy and uncreative, I say when done right, it can be just as creative as the original product. Get on it kids.

The LoFi Samurai on Spotify

The LoFi Samurai are featured on the Boxon Records label showcase ‘Boxon Makes Me Happy’ which is available now on 12″ and MP3 via all good outlets.
